Gattuso reveals Super Eagles star Osimhen is definitely out of Napoli's UEL clash vs Granada
Published: February 24, 2021
Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso has confirmed that Victor Osimhen is definitely out of their Europa League round of 32 second-leg clash against Granada at the Stadio Maradona on Thursday.
The Nigeria national teamer has been told to rest for a period of few days before returning to full training following the incident that occurred in the closing minutes of Sunday's 4-2 loss to Atalanta.
Osimhen had to be stretchered off following a challenge by Cristian Romero and regained consciousness in the ambulance taking him to the hospital.
The good news is that the head injury he reportedly suffered is not as bad as first feared and the striker is still in contention to be included in the Super Eagles roster for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches next month.
On the injury situation, Gattuso told reporters at Wednesday's press conference : "We won't have [Victor] Osimhen for this one and [Diego] Demme and
[Elseid] Hysaj aren't ready yet.
"Dries has trained on his own and he'll
be on the bench tomorrow because he hasn't played for a long time. We'll
see if he might be able to play some part tomorrow."
Napoli have a mountain to climb to progress to the last sixteen of
the Europa League after Granada recorded a comfortable 2-0 win in the
round of 32 first leg thanks to first half goals from Yangel Herrera and
Kenedy.
