What Sean Dyche said about Awoniyi after Nottingham Forest's win over Leeds United
Published: November 09, 2025
Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche has hailed Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi for his impressive display in the club's 3–1 victory over Leeds United at the City Ground on Sunday.
Awoniyi came off the bench in the 59th minute to replace Igor Jesus and made an instant impact, helping Forest secure their first home win under Dyche's management in the Premier League.
Speaking after the game, Dyche praised the 28-year-old for his contribution and admitted that Awoniyi had faced some challenges before he took over at the club.
"Tee {Taiwo Awoniyi} was excellent. Tee seemed a little bit lost when we got here but he knows he's got a part to play for us. I thought he was excellent," Dyche told Premier League Productions post-match.
The Nigerian international endured a difficult start to the campaign, often left out of matchday squads and omitted from Forest’s UEFA Europa League list.
Since Dyche's arrival, Awoniyi has shown signs of regaining his form and confidence, appearing in three Premier League matches and totaling 88 minutes on the pitch.
His earlier struggles contributed to him missing out on the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon in Morocco.
Awoniyi will now be eager to build on his recent performances and secure a call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of the AFCON tournament.
