Dike opens Barnsley account against Stoke City side captained by Chelsea icon Obi Mikel
Published: February 25, 2021Orlando City loanee Daryl Dike has opened his Barnsley goalscoring account and the goal came in a Championship clash against Stoke City at the Oakwell Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Potters side was captained by Chelsea icon John Obi Mikel who returned to the starting lineup and wore the captain's armband with Wales star Joe Allen dropping to the bench.
Callum Styles gave the Reds the lead when he picked up a loose ball and struck from more than 20 yards, across the goalkeeper and into the net.
Mikel came close to restoring parity but saw his long-range volley deflected over the bar.
Barnsley's Nigeria-eligible strikers Dike and Victor Adeboyejo came on in the 62nd minute as part of a double change made by manager Valérien Ismaël.
Dike slotted past goalkeeper Dunn after he was played through by Conor Chaplin in the 90th minute to seal a fourth consecutive league win for Barnsley.
The one-cap United States international made his fourth appearance for Barnsley against Stoke City.
