Manchester United rising star Shoretire Nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Month
Published: March 08, 2021
Manchester United rising star Shola Shoretire is aiming to become the first player of Nigerian descent to win the Premier League 2 Player of the Month accolade this season.
The diminutive winger has been shortlisted for the prestigious accolade by the Premier League following his outstanding performances in February 2021.
Bryan Fiabema and Faustino Anjorin (both Chelsea), Folarin Balogun (Arsenal), Nathan Tella (Southampton) and Kion Etete (Tottenham Hotspur) have been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month this season but missed out on the prize.
Last month, Shoretire was involved in four goals (3 goals, 1 assist) as Manchester United beat Blackburn Rovers U23 and was also on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win vs Arsenal U23s.
The 17-year-old made his Premier League debut against Newcastle United on February 21 and four days later became the youngest player in history to feature for Manchester United in European competition when he came off the bench against Real Sociedad.
Shoretire has been nominated along with Manchester City duo Liam Delap and James McAtee, Blackburn Rovers' Connor McBride, Everton's Nathan Broadhead, Leeds United's Cody Drameh and Stoke City's Ethon Varian.
The seven-player shortlist was picked by the Premier League Football Development Panel after PL2 club coaches nominated the best performance by an opposing player in each of their league matches in the month.
