Super Eagles striker Success makes first league start in 742 days for Watford in win vs Birmingham
Published: March 20, 2021
Super Eagles striker Isaac Success made his first league start in over two years as Watford recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over Birmingham City in a Championship clash at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
You have to go back to the 2018-2019 season, precisely March 9, 2019, to find the last time the former Granada man started a league game for the Hornets, 742 days ago in a 3-1 loss to Manchester City.
Since then, a combination of injuries and loss of form have kept him out of the starting lineup., although he has been involved in Watford's last four league matches, something which last happened in 2019.
Success last got on the scoresheet in a 2-0 win versus Newcastle United in the FA Cup in January 2019.
The 2013 U17 World Cup winner, once Watford's record signing, was considered for the starting XI against Birmingham City because Troy Deeney and Ismaïla Sarr are still recovering from injuries.
The Golden Boys won today's clash courtesy of goals from Ken Sema, Nathaniel Chalobah and Andre Gray.
Success was yellow carded just before half-time and made way for Nigeria-eligible winger Joseph Hungbo in the 57th minute.
