Four things we noticed from Nigeria's 1-0 victory against Republic of Benin
Published: March 27, 2021
Nigeria have joined other big African countries in booking their place at next year's Africa Cup of Nations after the 1-0 win over Benin Republic on Saturday evening.
Allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at the things noted in the game which makes the match between Nigeria and Lesotho a dead rubber on Tuesday.
1. Super Eagles First Half Better Than The Second
The Eagles were the better of the teams in the first half despite scoring in the second half of the game.
The team had numerous chances from corner kicks but scoring from dead ball situations remain a big task oftentimes for Gernot Rohr 's team.
2. Ndidi' s Ball Distribution
Wilfred Ndidi was a good shield for the back-line as he won his battles in midfield but his ball distribution was not as good as they came previously.
3. Qualification Pressure
That apparently created laxity in the overall play of the team albeit their scoring chances and the goal itself were impressive.
4. Okoye Must Watch His 'Confidence'
Maduka Okoye was rarely tested in the game by the Benin attacking players albeit he did make one good save.
However there was a moment in the game that he almost came off his goal area to claim the ball which the home side protested.
Another referee on his bad day could award that as an indirect free kick in a dangerous position.
The Sparta Rotterdam keeper is seemingly now the first choice Eagles keeper. Perhaps he needs serious competition to check his cocky or confident levels.
