Super Eagles center back automatically handed new one-year deal by Scottish champions Rangers
Super Eagles central defender Leon Balogun has been automatically handed a fresh one-year deal by Scottish Premiership champions Glasgow Rangers, according to reports.

The Scottish Sun says Balogun has earned a new deal at Rangers after playing enough games to trigger a contract extension.

The former Brighton & Hove star needed to make 23 starts in all competitions to trigger a contract extension and he reached the threshold when he was picked in the starting lineup in the Old Firm derby versus Celtic in Rangers' last game before the international break.

Balogun has impressed since his move to the Light Blues last summer, helping the club keep sixteen clean sheets in all competitions in the matches in he was involved in.

The 32-year-old has shown his versatility in recent games operating as a right-back, bagging two assists in four games.

He replicated his club form for the Super Eagles too, starring as the national team kept clean sheets in their 2021 Africa cup of Nations qualifying matches against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho.
