Anjorin scores but misses penalty as Chelsea return to winning ways in Premier League 2
Published: April 12, 2021
Chelsea returned to winning ways after back-to-back draws in the Premier League 2 by beating Southampton B 3-1 at Kingsmeadow on Monday night.
Anglo-Nigerian winger Faustino Anjorin, who has been left out of the traveling party for Tuesday's Champions League clash against Porto, returned to the starting lineup after missing the draw with West Ham U23s six days ago.
Two minutes after Southampton were reduced to ten men, they went in front thanks to their Belgian-Nigerian winger Kazeem Olaigbe, who clinically side-footed the ball home after a long clearance by the goalkeeper in the 54th minute.
Their lead lasted less than seven minutes though as Anjorin brought the game back to parity when he got himself in a shooting position and finished well.
Chelsea roared back as Siko Thomas and Mbuyamba scored in the 68th and 71st minute to put them 3-1 up.
Looking to score his second of the game, Anjorin uncharacteristically missed from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute, which denied Chelsea their second 4-1 win over the Saints this season.
Up next for Chelsea, they face Tottenham Hotspur in a London derby on April 18.
