Manchester United highlight red-hot striker Iheanacho as Leicester City player to watch out for
Published: May 11, 2021
Previewing Tuesday evening's Premier League meeting with Leicester City for the official website of Manchester United, Red Devils reporter Sam Carney has highlighted Kelechi Iheanacho as the Foxes player to watch out for.
The Nigeria international is having a big second half of the season, scoring thirteen goals while providing three assists in eleven appearances since the start of March 2021.
Manchester United have not found it easy in their two matches against Brendan Rodgers' team this season, drawing 2-2 in the reverse Premier League fixture before suffering a 3-1 loss in the quarterfinals of the Emirates FA Cup, a game in which Iheanacho was involved in all the goals scored by Leicester City.
Writing under the subheading, 'One to Watch', Carney said : "Kelechi Iheanacho is the reigning Premier League Player of the Month, having hit a rich vein of form during recent weeks.
"The Nigerian forward had just two domestic goals to his name by the end of February, as the Foxes relied upon the likes of Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes and James Maddison in forward areas.
"Injuries to the latter two, however, necessitated a change in formation for Rodgers’s men, with Iheanacho partnering Vardy in a striking duo.
"Since then, the former Manchester City man has been virtually unstoppable, scoring 10 in his last nine Premier League games, including a hat-trick against Sheffield United.
"Iheanacho’s goals have also been vital in helping the Foxes to a first FA Cup final since 1969, and he scored a brace against United in our quarter-final defeat in that competition."
In seven previous outings against Manchester United four of which he lost, Iheanacho has registered three goals and has two assists to his name.
