Confirmed team news : Villarreal's Chukwueze, Man Utd's Shoretire omitted from matchday 23 UEL final
Published: May 26, 2021
Samuel Chukwueze has been omitted from Villarreal's matchday 23 against Premier League side Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.
The right winger was in the traveling party to Gdansk but failed a fitness test in the last workout held by the Yellow Submarine at the Gdansk Stadium in Poland.
Manager Unai Emery has made a big call, naming Yeremi Pino in the starting lineup as a replacement for Chukwueze, a decision that sees Moi Gómez drop to the substitutes' bench.
The Nigeria international has been one of the standout players for the Yellow Submarine in the Europa League, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
Chukwueze has attempted the most dribbles in the Villarreal squad, 58 spread across eleven matches.
No player of Nigerian descent will be involved in tonight's showpiece, meaning Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær has not selected Shola Shoretire in his matchday squad.
The United Young Player of the Year participated in the team's final workout on Tuesday.
Villarreal confirmed starting XI: Rulli; Foyth, Albiol, Pau Torres, Pedraza; Capoue, Parejo, Trigueros; Yeremy, Gerard Moreno, Bacca.
Manchester United confirmed starting XI: De Gea; Wan Bissaka, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw; McTominay, Pogba, Bruno Fernandes; Rashford, Greenwood, Cavani.
