Confirmed : Irish-Nigerian youngster released by Cardiff City
Published: June 02, 2021Championship club Cardiff City have announced their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2020-2021 season.
Among the players leaving the Welsh outfit is Irish-Nigerian youngster Roland Idowu, who represented the U23s last season.
Idowu, who is comfortable playing as either a winger or a forward, joined the Bluebirds in September 2020 after two seasons with Southampton's youth team.
The 19-year-old played for St. Josephs Boys in the Republic of Ireland before moving to the United Kingdom in 2018.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Football Federation target Sheyi Ojo has confirmed that he is returning to Liverpool ahead of the start of pre-season training.
The 2017 U20 World Cup winner enjoyed a successful loan spell at Cardiff City, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 41 appearances in the Championship.
Another player of Nigerian descent in Ibrahim Bakare has been retained by Cardiff City and is expected to feature for the U23s in the forthcoming season.
