Moses extended Chelsea contract before Spartak loan move, among 7 Nigeria-eligible players retained
Published: June 05, 2021
Former Nigeria international Victor Moses was on Chelsea's retained list for the 2021-2022 season published by the official website of the Premier League on Friday.
The right wing-back moved to Spartak Moscow on loan last October but Chelsea were silent on whether or not he extended his contract.
Moses's former contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit would have run out on June 30, 2021, meaning it is now fully confirmed that he inked at least a one-year contract extension before heading to the Russian capital.
His nine-year association with Chelsea is set to come to an end in the coming days when the transfer market officially opens for business as Spartak Moscow have activated the mandatory purchase clause in his contract following their qualification for the Champions League.
Moses is one of seven Nigeria-eligible players retained by Chelsea for the time being, the others being Derrick Abu, Prince Adegoke, Faustino Anjorin, Tariq Uwakwe, Bryan Fiabema and Ike Ugbo.
Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo will enter the final one year of his contract with Chelsea next month and has been linked with a permanent departure from Stamford Bridge in the summer, having enjoyed back-to-back loan spells with Roda and Cercle Brugge.
Abu, Adegoke, Fiabema and Anjorin are young professionals and played for Chelsea academy teams in 2020-2021.
