Confirmed : Thirteen youngsters of Nigerian descent retained by Arsenal for 2021-2022 season
Published: June 05, 2021
Arsenal have submitted their retained and released list to the Premier League following the conclusion of the 2020-2021 season.
As many as thirteen youngsters eligible to represent the Nigerian national teams have been retained by the Gunners for the forthcoming season.
Arsenal have confirmed that they have made offers to goalkeepers Arthur Okonkwo, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, Mazeed Ogungbo and Daniel Oyegoke.
The aforementioned players are out of contract at the end of the month and would be moving onto pastures new if they don't agree terms with the club over the new deals.
Goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri, a second-year scholar last season, has also been retained, which suggests that he has extended his contract with the club.
Young professionals Ryan Alebiosu, Timothy Akinola, Joel Ideho, Zachariah Awe, Miguel Azeez, Folarin Balogun, Tolaji Bola and James Olayinka will have to report for pre-season training as they have all been retained.
Of the thirteen players listed, only Balogun and Azeez tasted action for the first team in 2020-2021.
Nigerian-born midfielder Akinola and Dutch-born Ideho joined Arsenal from Huddersfield Town and Ajax Amsterdam respectively in last summer's transfer window.
