Official : Two U23 players of Nigerian descent released by Leicester; Ndidi, Iheanacho retained
Published: June 05, 2021Two players of Nigerian descent under the age of 23 have been shown the exit door by Premier League side Leicester City.
According to the Premier League's released list, Layton Ndukwu and Daniel Obi have been declared surplus to requirements, with their expiring contracts not renewed.
The 22-year-old Ndukwu joined Leicester City at the age of nine and is leaving the club without a single first team appearance to his name though he was a non-playing substitute on the final day of the 2017-2018 Premier League season.
In his final season at the King Power Stadium, he appeared in five matches for the youth teams, scoring one goal and producing two assists.
Central defender Obi,18, arrived at Leicester City on scholarship terms in the summer of 2019 following a successful trial.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles stars Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi are among the players kept on by the Foxes ahead of the start of pre-season training.
Other Nigeria-eligible players retained are goalkeepers Kelechi Chibueze and Chitiru Odunze, and Josh Eppiah.
