Nigeria-eligible midfielder scores from outside the box again as Arsenal U23s beat Ebbsfleet
Published: July 31, 2021
Arsenal U23s won for the first time this pre-season, thrashing National League South club Ebbsfleet United 4-1 on Saturday with a player of Nigerian descent on the scoresheet for the Premier League 2 team.
Miguel Azeez's participation in tomorrow's first team friendly against Chelsea is now in doubt as he was named in the starting lineup along with Republic of Ireland youth-teamer of Nigerian descent Mazeed Ogungbo.
Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola, who recently returned to full training after a groin issue, was not in Arsenal's matchday squad and the same applies to Tolaji Bola who is being linked with a departure from north London before the window closes.
The Gunners led 2-1 at the break at the Kuflink Stadium thanks to goals from Swanson and Edwards, while Bingham was Ebbsfleet United's scorer.
Ten minutes into the second half, Ben Cottrell made it 3-1 when he tapped in the rebound after an initial save by the Reds goalkeeper, before Azeez wrapped up the scoring with a screamer from outside the box in the 67th minute.
It's the second consecutive game the Anglo-Nigerian midfielder has found the net in spectacular fashion, having netted a stunner from just outside the 18 in Arsenal's 4-1 rout of Watford on Wednesday.
Nigeria hopeful Tobi Adebayo-Rowling went the full ninety for Ebbsfleet United in today's friendly.
