David Alaba's Nigerian father receives N3.72billion from Real Madrid for being involved in deal
Published: August 02, 2021
David Alaba's Nigerian father, George Alaba benefited from the transfer of the former Bayern Munich defender to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
According to Der Spiegel via Marca, Alaba's father received 6.3 million euros from Los Blancos (approximately N3.72 billion in Nigerian currency).
George Alaba was paid 1.1 million euros more than Israeli super agent Pini Zahavi, the agent that brokered the deal taking the Austria international to Los Blancos.
Zahavi used to look after former Super Eagles stars Vincent Enyeama and Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
According to Austrian newspaper Kurier, Real Madrid overpaid George Alaba by 2.8 million euros as FIFA regulations state that the commission should not have exceeded 3.5 million euros.
Born in Nigeria, Alaba senior moved to Austria to study in 1984 and was granted Austrian citizenship in the mid-1990s.
George Alaba previously indicated that money did not play a role in his son leaving Bayern Munich for Real Madrid.
