Arsenal U23s boss runs the rule over seven players of Nigerian descent ahead of tough fixtures
Published: August 13, 2021
Arsenal U23s have stepped up preparations for the upcoming season with another training session held at London Colney on Thursday, August 12, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Premier League 2 fixtures have not been kind to the Young Gunners - playing London derbies against West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur in their opening three matches before facing Manchester United, Chelsea and champions Manchester City in that order.
Former Seychelles international Kevin Betsy monitored seven players of Nigerian descent during yesterday's workout.
They are goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri, defenders Ryan Alebiosu and Mazeed Ogungbo, midfielders Tim Akinola and Miguel Azeez, wingers Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Joel Ideho.
Of the aforementioned players, only Ejeheri has yet to make his competitive debut for Arsenal U23s, he was an unused substitute on four occasions in the Premier League 2 last term.
Ejeheri is currently behind eight-cap Estonia international Karl Jakob Hein in the pecking order of goalkeepers at Arsenal U23s, while Arthur Okonkwo is still age-eligible to feature for the U23s even though he has been fully promoted to the first team.
Midfielder James Olayinka, 20, is expected to feature for Arsenal U23s in the first half of the season if he is not loaned out before the close of the transfer window.
