Chelsea confirm Anjorin's squad number for 2021-2022 season
Published: August 13, 2021
Chelsea have more or less indicated that Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Faustino Anjorin has been promoted to the first team after listing him among the first-team players handed squad numbers for the 2021-2022 season ahead of their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.
The Blues official website confirmed on Friday that the England youth international is one of the players to have taken up a new shirt number, moving to number 27.
Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo's squad number has not been revealed; the striker is set to complete a move to Belgian Cup winners Racing Genk in the coming days.
Anjorin previously made five first-team appearances for Chelsea, starting from his senior debut against Grimsby Town in the League Cup, wearing the number 55 on each occasion.
Born November 23, 2001, Anjorin is a homegrown player having spent more than a decade at Chelsea.
However, he will be considered as an U21 player in Chelsea's Premier League squad as he was born after January 1, 2000.
John Obi Mikel's former squad number (12) he wore during his eleven-year association with Chelsea has been given to Ruben Loftus-Cheek for the new season.
