'Very strong' - Ian Wright backs Super Eagles star to step up to the plate on EPL debut vs Arsenal
Published: August 13, 2021
Brentford will become the 50th team to play in the Premier League when the players take to the pitch against Arsenal at Brentford Community Stadium on Friday night.
Frank Onyeka will start the Bees' first-ever Premier League game, while it will be interesting to see how Folarin Balogun leads the Arsenal line.
The Hale End Academy graduate has come into the starting lineup with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette unavailable for selection due to illness.
Onyeka became Brentford's record acquisition when he joined the club for a fee of ten million euros on July 20 before it was surpassed by Norway defender Kristoffer Ajer the following day.
Though none of the Brentford players have started a Premier League game before in the past, Arsenal legend Ian Wright is backing the Super Eagles star to step-up to the English top-flight.
"They have played together for such a long time and when you look at the caliber of players that they have moved on they are more than good enough," Wright said on Premier League Productions just before kickoff.
"They are very comfortable with what they are doing, I am looking forward to seeing Onyeka, he is a very good up and down player, very strong.
"Ajer, very experienced in what he's doing, but no Premier League experience but I think the fact that they have played together for so long I think they are going to cause problems".
Onyeka got a taste of English football when he featured in Brentford's pre-season friendlies against Manchester United and West Ham United, and he faced Liverpool twice in last season's UEFA Champions League.
