'I'm happy for my Nigerian brother' - Etebo pleased to see Dennis score on Premier League debut
Published: August 14, 2021
Emmanuel Dennis did exactly what was expected of him on his Premier League debut on Saturday afternoon, scoring as an impressive Watford team defeated Aston Villa 3-2 at Vicarage Road.
The Super Eagles winger gave the Hornets an early lead, slotting past goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez after his initial attempt was blocked in the tenth minute, before turning provider for the second goal netted by Ismaïla Sarr.
Dennis found joy down the right flank especially in the first half, linking up well with Senegal international Sarr.
Stoke City loanee Oghenekaro Etebo, who was also making his Premier League debut against Aston Villa, was delighted with the performance of the two African players and thanked both for the part they played in the early goal.
"It's very important as a team to score first and when you get an early goal it motivates everyone, keeps the positive vibes going and everyone keeps pushing," Etebo told the official website of Watford.
"I’m happy for my Nigerian brother [Dennis] and Sarr as well. They did well, you can see they’ve got good pace, they run forward and are direct players".
Etebo was booked in the 86th minute for a tactical foul as he charged Jacob Ramsey from behind to prevent a counter attack.
