Watford legend reckons Aston Villa's downfall was failure to cope with pace of Super Eagles star
Published: August 15, 2021
Watford's Premier League season started in style with three goals and three points on the board following a 3-2 win over Aston Villa at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.
Emmanuel Dennis was the star of the show, scoring on his Premier League debut in the tenth minute before setting up the second goal netted by Ismaïla Sarr three minutes to the end of the first half.
The link-up play between the Super Eagle and The Lion of Teranga down the right hand side was undefendable, especially in the first half.
Watford legend Tommy Mooney believes that Aston Villa lost the game because they could not cope with the attacking pace of Dennis.
Watford legend Tommy Mooney believes that Aston Villa lost the game because they could not cope with the attacking pace of Dennis.
Speaking on Hive Live Extra, the former Hornets striker said : "He certainly doesn't give anybody a rest because all over the pitch.
"He did things that surprised me, when you are coming forward to the ball as a striker and you have got a defender behind you it's really difficult to control the ball and take control of it.
"He was doing that and at times he was playing one touch passes to Sarr, back into midfielders. He was very accomplished.
"He got tired towards the end, he took a couple of knocks but got his goal. It's amazing how much more energy you get after you score a goal".
