Published: August 17, 2021
Glasgow Rangers' Nigerian fullback Calvin Bassey has been named in the SPFL Team of the Week by Craig Fowler from a View from the Terrace.
Eleven different clubs are represented in the Team of the Week published by the official website of the Scottish Professional Football League on Tuesday, August 17.
The clubs are Edinburgh City, Falkirk, Annan Athletic, Raith Rovers, Dundee, Hibernian, Celtic, Rangers, Cove Rangers, Clyde and Elgin City.
Predominantly a left-back who can also slot in at central defence, Bassey was deployed as the left wing-back in the Team of the Week in a 3-4-3 formation.
In his second start of the season, the Leicester City Academy product impressed as Steven Gerrard's team returned to winning ways by thrashing Dunfermline Athletic FC 5-0 in the round of 16 of the League Cup.
Bassey had a hand in two of the goals netted by the Light Blues, providing assists for John Lundstram and Ianis Hagi's strikes.
With the exception of the 1-0 loss to Dundee United, he has been included in every matchday squad picked by Gerrard in the new season.
