Arsenal 0 Chelsea 2 : Balogun enters game as sub; Anjorin, Okonkwo not in squad
Published: August 22, 2021
Arsenal have had a disastrous start to the season after suffering their second consecutive loss in the English Premier League.
Nine days after losing to Brentford on the opening day, the Gunners were defeated 2-0 in a London derby at the Emirates Stadium with Romelu Lukaku and Reece James getting on the scoresheet in the first half.
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and Faustino Anjorin were left out of the matchday squad, while Folarin Balogun came off the bench to replace the ailing Gabriel Martinelli with eleven minutes left on the clock.
Chelsea broke the deadlock when the lively Reece James crossed low for the onrushing Lukaku to tap home in the fifteenth minute.
Ten minutes before half-time, James finished off a great team move to double the advantage, the wing-back blasted a shot into the top far corner after he was picked out by Mason Mount.
Chelsea kept Arsenal at arm's length in the second half apart from a deflected Bukayo Saka shot saved by goalkeeper Mendy for a corner.
Chelsea are one of four teams who have played two and won two, the others being Liverpool, Brighton & Hove and Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley, Newcastle United and Norwich City are the teams yet to register a point.
