Breaking - Carabao Cup team news : Southampton B captain will not make pro debut vs Newport
Published: August 25, 2021Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Nigeria hopeful Oludare Olufunwa will not make his professional debut for Southampton when they tackle Newport County in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night amid speculation that he is one of the youngsters being considered for a maiden senior call-up by manager Ralph Hasenhüttl .
The highly-rated young center-back has been omitted from the Saints traveling party to Wales.
Previously, Olufunwa had been heavily tipped to play a part against the Exiles after captaining Southampton B in their first two matches of the new Premier League 2 season against Norwich City and Nottingham Forest.
In addition, the 20-year-old was promoted to first team training during the pre-season and was named in matchday squads for friendlies with Fulham, Cardiff City, Swansea City, Levante and Athletic Bilbao.
Olufunwa missed majority of last season due to injury and his four appearances for Southampton B came towards the back end of the campaign.
However, his injury problems are well and truly behind him after going the distance in Southampton B's first two competitive matches this term.
