Super Eagles' ex-Chelsea defender Omeruo opens La Liga 2 account for 2021-2022
Published: December 19, 2021
It has taken Kenneth Omeruo nine matches to open his account in the Spanish La Liga 2 for the 2021-2022 season.
The former Chelsea center-back was on target as CD Leganes recorded an impressive 2-0 road win over Malaga at the Estadio La Rosaleda on Saturday evening.
Six minutes into the second half, Omeruo got his foot to a free-kick floated into the box and tapped in for the opener.
There was a hint of offside in the build-up to the defender's strike but the goal was awarded after a VAR review.
Omeruo has found playing time less easy to come by this season and his appearance against Malaga yesterday was his first in five matches in the division.
Before the visit to the Andalusian province, he had not scored for CD Leganes since February 17, 2021.
Once Chelsea's longest-serving player on a first-team contract, Omeruo ended his seven-and-a-half-year association with the Stamford Bridge outfit in August 2019 after spending time on loan at ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasımpaşa, Alanyaspor and Leganes.
