Super Eagles camp update: Eric Chelle still waiting to welcome Osimhen, Okoye and Alhassan
Published: November 11, 2025
Preparations for Nigeria's 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon have intensified in Rabat, with 21 players now in the Super Eagles camp.
Head coach Eric Chelle is overseeing training sessions as the team continues to build momentum ahead of the crucial encounter.
The players currently in camp include Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Olakunle Olusegun, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, William Troost-Ekong, Benjamin Frederick, Chidozie Awaziem, Amas Obasogie, Stanley Nwabali, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Zaidu Sanusi and Bruno Onyemaechi.
Three more players — goalkeeper Maduka Okoye (Udinese), midfielder Alhassan Yusuf (New England Revolution) and forward Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray) — are expected to arrive later today to complete the 24-man squad invited for the two-legged playoff series.
The team held their first training session on Monday and another is expected to hold today at the Institut Royal de Formation des Cadres in Rabat.
Under Chelle's supervision, the Super Eagles have been focusing on tactical organization, transition play, and finishing drills as they fine-tune their preparations for the encounter.
Nigeria will face Gabon on November 13 in Rabat, with the winner advancing to the African playoff final scheduled for November 16.
The winner of that match will meet either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Cameroon for Africa’s lone Intercontinental playoff spot — a decisive step toward securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
