Balogun named in Arsenal's provisional squad ahead of Carabao Cup clash vs Sunderland
Published: December 20, 2021
Folarin Balogun has been included in Arsenal's provisional squad for Tuesday's Carabao Cup clash against Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have published training images of their final workout held at London Colney on Monday and the Anglo-American-Nigerian center forward was pictured training with the first teamers, putting him in contention to be named in the matchday squad.
For the fourth round of the Carabao Cup upwards, the English Football League allows teams to make five substitutions from the nine on the bench, brightening the chances of Balogun getting minutes against the Black Cats.
The England U21 international could also get a look-in with first-choice striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not at the disposal of manager Mikel Arteta due to a breach of club discipline.
Balogun has made three first team appearances for the Gunners this season, the last of which came against another Football League team, AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
He has been in red-hot form for the development team, scoring 16 goals in all competitions, and was named Premier League 2 Player of the Month for November 2021.
