Mikel Arteta's assistant runs the rule over Nigeria-eligible central defender pre-Man City
Published: December 30, 2021
Arsenal's assistant manager Albert Stuivenberg has been checking out teenage Nigeria-eligible central defender Zach Awe before the Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.
First-team manager Mikel Arteta will not be in the dugout on New Year's Day against his former employers as he is currently isolating after testing positive for Covid-19.
According to Arsenal youth team guru Jeorge Bird, Stuivenberg, who is overseeing first team training, invited Awe to train with the senior team on Wednesday.
Folarin Balogun was pictured training with the first team ahead of a possible departure from the Gunners on a temporary basis in the coming days.
This is not the first time that Awe has rubbed shoulders with Arsenal stars as he also trained with the first team last season.
A tall and physical center back, the Anglo-Nigerian starlet is back in the reckoning after recovering from an injury that saw him miss the start of the 2021-2022 campaign.
The Hale End Academy product started the last six matches played by the Gunners in the U18 Premier League and was involved in FA Youth Cup action against Colchester United twenty days ago.
