'Aribo has been heavily linked' - Ex-Celtic striker claims midfielder could leave Rangers January
Published: January 07, 2022
Former Celtic star Frank McAvennie has claimed that Joe Aribo could leave Rangers this month despite the sale of Nathan Patterson for a club record fee to Everton.
The Scottish champions made a loss of £23.5million for the financial year ending June 2021 due to the Covid-19 impact and as a result the sale of players or capital injection is necessary to keep their books balanced.
Patterson's transfer fee could reach £16million with £12million guaranteed and £4million performance related add-ons.
With the financial boost, Rangers are not under pressure to sell their players but McAvennie has suggested that the Light Blues would be forced into a sale if either Aribo or another coveted player Alfredo Morelos push for the exit door.
"If a bid comes in for Morelos or Aribo and the player wants to go, the club’s financial situation doesn’t matter," McAvennie said to Football Insider.
"The player can push to go and Rangers will accept the bid. For me, the Patterson deal changes nothing in that regard.
"Aribo has been heavily linked, so I wouldn’t rule out a bid coming in. "

Aribo is currently with the Nigeria squad in Cameroon preparing to take on Egypt in their opening game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
