PL2 : Shoretire scores acrobatic goal but Manchester United lose five-goal thriller to Leicester
Published: April 05, 2022
Manchester United are mathematically out of the race to win the Premier League 2 title after they were beaten 3-2 in a five-goal thriller in Seagrave on Monday evening - a result that leaves them thirteen points behind Manchester City three matches to the end of the 2021-2022 season.
Shola Shoretire started from the very beginning for the visitors while Leicester City's Anglo-American-Nigerian goalkeeper Chituru Odunze was a non-playing substitute.
Lewis Brunt converted from the spot in the 17th minute to open the scoring after Suengchitthawon's shot was handled in the area.
The Foxes were in a commanding position at the interval courtesy of further goals from Wanya Marçal and Sammy Braybrooke.
Manchester United pulled a goal back when a powerful shot from Charlie Wellens came off the crossbar and struck Brunt before crossing the line.
On 70 minutes, Shoretire was the quickest to react and acrobatically slotted home after Hannibal's effort was blocked, but the Red Devils were unable to find an equaliser.
The England youth international of Nigerian descent has directly participated in 18 goals (9 goals, 9 assists) in 26 appearances for United's youth teams this season.
