Crystal Palace are on the verge of confirming the signing of 2019 Nigeria U17 invitee Malcolm Ebiowei after beating a plethora of clubs to his signature, including Premier League giants Manchester United.

Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported on Thursday that Ebiowei spoke directly with Old Trafford chiefs but opted against joining the club because it will be difficult for him to break into their first team.

The Sun UK has confirmed the report, stating that Steve McClaren, former Derby County technical director now an assistant coach at Manchester United, tried to get the Nigerian to follow him to Old Trafford in a series of phone calls.

The report added that Ebiowei ignored a text message from new Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag.

Three meetings with Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman swayed Ebiowei's decision to join the Selhurst Park outfit over Manchester United.

Regarded as one of the brightest teenagers in English football, Ebiowei has agreed a five-year deal with Crystal Palace.

The 18-year-old registered three goal involvements in sixteen Championship appearances last season.

Derby County will receive compensation for Ebiowei's transfer to the Eagles despite the player's contract expiring on June 30, 2022.
