Bassey breaks Nigerian record that stood for 25 years as Ajax confirm N9.8b capture of Rangers LB

Calvin Bassey has broken a Nigerian transfer record that stood for twenty-five years following Ajax Amsterdam's confirmation of his transfer to the club on Wednesday afternoon.

Predominantly a left-back, Bassey has now become the most expensive Nigerian defender in history, overtaking the legendary Super Eagles central defender Taribo West who moved to Inter Milan from Auxerre in 1997 in exchange for 12 million euros.

Rangers have also confirmed that the deal taking Bassey to the Amsterdam club is the largest in the club's history.
