Scotland hero questions exit of German-born Super Eagles centre-back from Rangers

Following the nervy 2-2 draw between Rangers and PSV in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last round of qualifiers, Scotland legend Ally McCoist has questioned the decision of the club to let go of German-born Nigeria international Leon Balogun.

The defender was released at the expiration of his contract but McCoist is of the opinion Balogun could have been offered a new deal.

Balogun's aerial advantage could have helped the Gers in the 2-2 draw on Tuesday night in the thoughts of McCoist.

Balogun was also in attendance at Ibrox for the previous qualifying clash against Union Saint-Gilloise and he's yet to find a new club since departing Rangers as McCoist insisted he'd not have let him go.

McCoist told BT Sport, according to Football Scotland : "Definitely, that is why I mentioned [Leon] Balogun.

"He is sitting up in the stand watching Rangers. I am not sure I would be letting him go. You look at [John] Souttar's injuries and [Filip] Helander obviously."

BT Sport's Darrell Currie then asked: "Are you suggesting sign him up, Ally?"

Miller responded : "I was just about to say, is there a case to actually bring him? He's without a club."

McCoist continued: "Perhaps there is. It is not with hindsight. I was surprised to see him go.

"I really, really was. I tell you what, they could have done with him tonight.

The Super Eagles star made a total of 65 appearances for his former employers and was on target on two occasions.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side will face the Dutch side in the return leg next week Wednesday for the decider in determining which team will play in the group stages.
