Nigeria to face star-studded Portugal team filled with Man Utd, Man City, Wolves players
Published: September 08, 2022The Super Eagles will face the Portuguese national team in an international friendly before the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Nicknamed A Seleção, Portugal have in their ranks Premier League stars such as Manchester United trio Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, Manchester City's João Cancelo and Bernardo Silva, Fulham's João Palhinha, Wolverhampton Wanderers quartet Rúben Neves, Matheus Nunes, João Moutinho and Gonçalo Guedes as well as Liverpool striker Diogo Jota.
Arsenal defender Cédric Soares, Manchester City centre-back Rúben Dias and Wolves fullback Nélson Semedo are the other Premier League players in contention to be called up for the friendly against the three-time African champions.
The match against the 2016 European champions will take place at the Estádio José Alvalade, home ground of Sporting Club de Portugal, on November 17.
The friendly against Nigeria is Portugal's last preparatory game before their trip to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.
Portugal will use the friendly to prepare for their 2022 World Cup Group H clash against Ghana on November 24.
Nigeria missed out on the 2022 World Cup after they were knocked out on the away goal rule by the Black Stars, drawing goalless in Kumasi before a 1-1 stalemate at the National Stadium in Abuja.
November's friendly is the first-ever meeting between Portugal and Nigeria at full international level.
