Nigeria face anxious wait as Sadiq suffers knee injury, striker undergoes MRI on Monday
Published: September 11, 2022Nigeria are sweating over the availability of Umar Sadiq for their upcoming friendly against Algeria on September 27, 2022.
The Real Sociedad striker was substituted in the 38th minute of his side's 2-1 loss at Getafe in a La Liga match on Sunday and the initial diagnosis by the club's medical team is that he suffered a knee injury.
Things are not looking too good at the moment considering that Sadiq returned to the bench on crutches after going to the dressing room.
Tests will be carried out tomorrow that will determine whether or not he has a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Providing an update on the injury suffered by the Nigerian, manager Imanol Alguacil said at the post-match press conference : "It was important because if I bet on him it was because I understood that he was going to help us a lot.
"We are going to wait, but the image has been ugly. But I don't want to risk it either, we are going to wait for the MRI. I hope it is nothing serious, but It is true that the image has not been good at all."
He added : "I am not a doctor, but we are going to wait for the corresponding MRI to be done. What I can say, because it has been very close to me, is that the image has been ugly.
"I do not want to venture, we are going to wait, and let's hope it's nothing serious."
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro will be monitoring developments in Basque Country with keen interest as he is expected to announce his squad list for the first international break of the season within the next one week or so.
The 25-year-old Sadiq has seven international caps to his name, scoring a goal against Guinea-Bissau at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
