Lennon ponders starting Super Eagles star v Man Utd as first choice GK is ruled out
Published: October 12, 2022
Omonia Nicosia's British football tactician Neil Lennon has a big decision to make regarding the starting goalkeeper for Thursday's Europa League meeting with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Omonia's first choice goalkeeper Fabiano has been ruled out of the matchday four fixture after suffering an injury during the league match against AEL Limassol on Monday.
Lennon has to decide whether to hand a starting berth to Uzoho or Cyprus international goalkeeper Konstantinos Panagi.
Panagi came on for the injured Fabiano in the 57th minute against AEL Limassol, while Uzoho replaced the Brazilian in goal when he got injured in their Europa League opener against FC Sheriff.
One advantage Uzoho has over Panagi is that the Nigerian is more experienced on the international stage with 26 caps to his name and has represented his country in the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.
In the current season, Panagi has played two matches in all competitions for The Basilissa, same number as his rival for a starting spot against Manchester United.
Omonia lost 3-2 to Erik ten Hag's side last week in Cyprus with Uzoho a non-playing substitute.
