UYL : Nigeria striker on target as Chelsea thrash Dinamo Zagreb 4-0
Published: November 02, 2022Chelsea bowed out of the UEFA Youth League with their heads held high after thrashing Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 in their final group game staged at Cobham Training Center on Wednesday afternoon.
As for team news, Blues' Nigeria-eligible striker Louis Flower entered the game as a substitute in the 61st minute - his fourth career appearance in the UEFA Youth League.
Chinonso Chibueze, Derrick Abu, Richard Olise and Somto Boniface were not called up for the dead rubber fixture.
Two-time winners Chelsea crashed out of the UEFA Youth League eight days ago after suffering a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Salzburg.
Five minutes before halftime, the deadlock was broken as Leo Castledine curled home a beautiful free-kick from the edge of the box, leaving the Dinamo goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
Three minutes after his introduction, Flower tapped the ball into the net after a lovely team move and doubled the advantage in the process, before an own goal from Cvetko and Frankie Runham's strike sealed the emphatic win.
Flower looked lively when he came on and had more opportunities to score his second UEFA Youth League goal,
His first effort was saved by the goalkeeper and for the second chance he was not well positioned in the box.
