Former Gunner Nwakali makes his comeback from injury against Villarreal B
Published: January 06, 2023
Former Arsenal midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has made his comeback, forty one days after suffering a knee injury in a Spanish Segunda Division match against Malaga.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported that the Nigeria national teamer was included in the provisional squad for today's league match between SD Ponferradina and Villarreal B at the Estadio El Toralín, and manager David Gallego was planning to give him minutes.
Nwakali, with the number 11 at the back of his jersey, hopped off the bench in the 59th minute as a replacement for Erik Moran.
The 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner helped SD Ponferradina claim a 2-1 victory, with the winning goal netted by
Jose Maria Amo ten minutes from time.
With almost the last kick of the first half, Sergio Lozano opened the scoring for the Mini Submarine, but Hugo Vallejo brought the game back to parity with a goal in the 57th minute, two minutes before Nwakali entered the fray.
The game against Villarreal B was Nwakali's eighteen appearance in all competitions for SD Ponferradina since his arrival in the summer transfer window.
Ponferradina are eighteenth in the provisional standings with 24 points from 22 matches.
