PL2 : Two Flying Eagles-eligible players score for Arsenal in come-from-behind win v Leicester
Published: January 13, 2023
Arsenal came from behind to beat Leicester City 2-1 in a Premier League 2 match staged at Meadow Park on Friday night.
Three Flying Eagles-eligible players in central defender Zach Awe, attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri and striker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji started for the Gunners, while Nigeria U20 invitees Joel Ideho and Ovie Ejeheri were not in the matchday squad.
Anglo-American-Nigerian goalkeeper Chituru Odunze started for the Foxes and put in an impressive shift.
Marcal-Madivadua gave the visitors a perfect start when he opened the scoring after eight minutes and the goal ensured Leicester City were ahead at the interval.
Odunze made a good save to deny Matt Smith midway through the first half and Butler-Oyedeji went close to putting Arsenal level in the 43rd minute.
Awe headed in a corner to make it 1-1 just before the hour mark, and Butler-Oyedeji poked the ball home with five minutes remaining for the match-wining strike.
The Gunners climbed up to second in the table with the win against Leicester City, level on 26 points with leaders Chelsea, who have played one game more.
