No buyout clause : Chelsea have to pay what PSV want for Super Eagles-eligible winger
Published: January 14, 2023Premier League giants Chelsea cannot trigger any buyout clause in their attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur academy product Nonso Madueke from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window.
Madueke's contract with PSV runs until June 2025 and there had been speculation that a release clause was inserted into his contract when he signed a new deal in August 2021.
However, PSV insider and Eindhovens Dagblad / AD Sportwereld journalist, Rik Elfrink has insisted that a release clause does not exist, adding that Chelsea have to pay what PSV are demanding for the 20-year-old.
Chelsea's initial bid of 30 million euros fell short of the winger's valuation, with PSV looking to receive a similar fee to the one they agreed with Liverpool for the transfer of Cody Gakpo this month.
Netherlands World Cup star, Gakpo joined Liverpool in exchange for 42 million euros with 14 million euros in performance-related add-ons.
Elfrink revealed that Madueke has remained professional amid the transfer speculation as he wants to keep training and playing matches for PSV as long as the two clubs have not come to an agreement
Madueke made a bold move to turn down a scholarship deal with Tottenham Hotspur in 2018 in order to pursue his ambition of playing first team football at a foreign club.
