West Ham, Southampton, OGC Nice lagging behind Marseille in race for Super Eagles star
Published: January 24, 2023
Marseille are currently in pole position to secure the services of Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi.
According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Marseille and Lorient have reached a club-to-club agreement for the transfer of Moffi.
Moffi's proposed transfer to Marseille is subject to him agreeing personal terms with the nine-time French champions.
OGC Nice, West Ham United and Southampton were also involved in the race to sign the Nigeria international but are now lagging behind frontrunners Marseille in the scramble for his signature.
While OGC Nice made at least three bids to sign the 23-year-old, Southampton's offer was deemed insufficient by Lorient and West Ham United tabled an offer worth £20m plus £5m in potential add-ons.
Lorient could receive 18 million euros for the sale of Moffi to Marseille - a guaranteed sum of 14 million euros and bonuses of 4 million euros.
And in order to sweeten the deal, Marseille have proposed to use out-of-favour Senegal international Bamba Dieng, who is valued at five million euros, in the Moffi transfer.
