'Always good to be versatile' - Chelsea starlet Chukwuemeka reveals his most preferred position
Published: January 27, 2023England youth team of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka has outlined his best position as he hopes to make quite an impression at his Premier League club, Chelsea.
The youngster who arrived London club from Aston Villa spoke exclusively to the Chelsea website on his most preferred position despite being able to play in different formations
Chukwuemeka recently made his first start for the Blues albeit he could find his playing time limited due to the many acquisitions the club has made in recent weeks.
‘'I’m probably most comfortable as a left 8 in a three,’' Chukwuemeka told Chelsea website.
‘'But further forward, I can drift off the line, or stay out wide. It gives me that freedom to drive with the ball and receive it in pockets.
‘'Growing up in the academy at Villa I did play in multiple positions in the midfield and the forward line. I was used to it, and used to learning different roles playing for England as well at youth level."
Chukwuemeka however acknowledges that his career will be best served if he makes himself a versatile player for Graham Potter's team.
‘'I have had to adapt throughout my career so far. It is always good to be versatile. You never know when you’ll be needed in different positions."
Chukwuemeka has played eight times in the Premier League this season, chalking up a total of 197 minutes thus far.
The talented midfielder who could be a target of the Nigeria Football Federation with a view to playing for the Super Eagles also added that he has been working on his physical attributes and hopes to add more goals to his game.
