'I saw something similar to Pele' - Brazil legend Careca sings the praises of Osimhen
Published: February 12, 2023
Brazil legend and former Napoli striker Antonio Careca has heaped praise on Victor Osimhen for his brilliant goal against AS Roma in a Seire A match on January 29, saying that he sees something of Pele in the Super Eagles number 9.
Napoli were 1-0 up at the break, with a goal of the season contender netted by Osimhen separating the two sides.
The 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner showed great ball control and volleyed the ball into the back of the net after he was found by a cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
To Napoli's advantage, Osimhen is in the best form of his career since his move to Italy, having found the net in five consecutive matches in the Serie A.
It will be very interesting to see whether Napoli will be able to keep hold of him for next season amid interest from big spenders such as Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG.
Commenting on Osimhen's goal against Roma, Careca said to Calciomercato : "In the goal scored against Roma, I saw something similar to Pelé.
"He dominated the ball, dominated the defender and smashed the goal. In that goal, there is everything, technique, malice and power."
In the current season, Osimhen has scored sixteen goals in seventeen matches in the Serie A, which gives an average of 0.94 per game.
