Arsenal beat Chelsea to sign Anglo-Nigerian striker on schoolboy terms
Published: March 16, 2023Arsenal have won the race for the signature of teenage Anglo-Nigerian striker Nefeye Osaze.
Osaze has joined the Gunners on schoolboy terms and the initial agreement will keep him at the north London club until 2025.
According to Pulse Sports, the 13-year-old trialed at both Chelsea and Arsenal but chose to join the Emirates outfit because his idol Thierry Henry used to play for the club.
Osaze attracted the attention of both clubs after his impressive performances for the youth team of non-leaguers Slough Town.
He cut his footballing teeth at Lagos-based grassroots club City Sports School, joining them in 2017 at the age of six, before moving to England in 2022.
The promising striker impressed during his trial period with the Gunners, scoring ten goals in nine matches,
Arsenal decided to offer him a contract after watching him at close quaters for approximately four months.
Osaze is not eligible to represent Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup and Premier League next season.
