'He's an asset to Arsenal's title chase' - Ex-Nigeria coach hails Ramsdale for display v Liverpool
Published: April 09, 2023
Aaron Ramsdale's impressive showing in Arsenal's 2-2 draw against Liverpool in a Premier League match at Anfield on Easter Sunday has earned him prase from former Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh.
The Gunners dropped two points from a winning position after Roberto Firmino came off the bench to score an 87th minute equalizer for Jurgen Klopp's team.
The Premier League leaders raced into a two-goal lead inside 28 minutes thanks to strikes from Brazilian duo Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, but Egypt international Mohamed Salah's goal just before halftime proved pivotal.
Ramsdale made a couple of spectacular saves towards the end of the game which prevented Liverpool from grabbing a winner.
Ramsdale denied Darwin Nunez with nine minutes left on the clock and deep into stoppage time, Salah's curling shot was heading in but the England shot-stopper clawed it past the past.
And in the 96th minute, the Arsenal glovesman blocked Ibrahima Konate's effort on the goalline.
Oliseh underlined that Ramsdale is an essential player for Arsenal in their race for the Premier League title.
Writing on Twitter, the former Juventus and Ajax Amsterdam midfielder said : "Top goalkeepers win points,Aaron Ramsdale once again confirmed my belief that he is an asset to Arsenal's title chase with his 5 star performance vs. Liverpool.
"If Arsenal wants to be champion, there is a need to muscle up against top opponents, in my opinion. Superb point won!"
Arsenal now lead Manchester City by six points but have played a game more than their closest challengers for the title and still have to visit the Etihad Stadium on April 26.
