Why Premier League-bound Burnley must keep Southampton-owned winger Tella at all costs
Published: April 10, 2023
Burnley have secured promotion back to the Premier League and at the heart of that success was Nathan Tella.
The Southampton loanee has 17 goals and 4 assists in 36 appearances for the Clarets in the championship this season.
Here is why Burnley must retain his services going into next season.
Tella is Burnley's top scorer in the Championship this season, the closest to him is Jay Rodriguez, who has 9 goals. It is a no-brainer for Vincent Kompany to ensure that his side retains its most prolific player.
In the absence of a prolific forward, the Arsenal-reared forward has stepped up and performed that role superbly.
The first step for Burnley to ensure they have a decent season in their first season back in the Premier League is retaining the services of Tella.
Another reason why he has to be kept by Burnley is that Tella has Premier League experience. One of the reasons why newly promoted teams struggle in the Premier League is the inexperience of their players.
This was why Nottingham Forest hired players with Premier League experience when they got promoted, though the result has not been forthcoming and they could head back to the Championship at the end of the season.
Before his loan move to Burnley, Tella had featured for Southampton 33 times in the Premier League.
While he struggled to impress and that led to him being loaned out, he would be returning to the Premier League as a better player and his experience would be a valuable addition.
Be it on another loan agreement or a permanent transfer, Burnley must not fail to keep Tella at Turf Moor beyond this season.
