'Worth the money these days' - Onuoha insists Grealish is one of Man City's best players
Published: April 12, 2023
Nigerian-born former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has praised Jack Grealish for his defensive contribution to the Manchester City side and reckons that the England star is currently one of the best players at the reigning Premier League champions.
Grealish became the most expensive English player in history following his move to Manchester City from Aston Villa in the summer of 2021 for fee of 100 million pounds.
It took the England international a while to settle into the Manchester City squad in his first season, but the attacking midfielder and winger is now playing some of the best football City hoped he would when they signed him for a then British record transfer fee.
Grealish has started showing end product too with a goal involvement of 14 (5 goals, 9 assists) so far this season, four more than he managed in his maiden season at the Etihad Stadium, and is the fulcrum of everything City do well on the ball.
Onuoha underlined that Grealish's ability to track back when Manchester City lose possession has been useful to Pep Guardiola's side.
Asked if Jack Grealish is Manchester City's best defender, Onuoha said on ESPN FC Extra Time : "He does a lot of defensive work but nobody wants to see that so you don't really pay attention to it, but he's good, he's fitting in.
"He seems to be worth the money these days. He's doing that particularly well because one of the first names on the team sheet.
"Some people watching him, some people hating on him but you have fair play. He's earned the right to be one of the best players at Manchester City right now."
A product of the Manchester City academy, Onuoha appeared in 116 first team matches for the Citizens during his playing days.
