Tottenham Hotspur manager promotes 17yo Nigerian forward to first team training
Published: July 12, 2023Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has promoted London-born Nigerian forward Damola Ajayi to first team training, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The former Glasgow Celtic coach is running the rule over Ajayi before making a decision on whether or not to include him in the traveling squad to Australia and Asia for pre-season matches.
Ajayi, 17, is in the second year of his scholarship at Tottenham Hotspur, whom he joined from Bromley FC.
The versatile striker is highly rated by the Tottenham Hotspur coaches and this is made evident by the fact that he was with the first team as the 21st player for their Premier League clash against Leeds United at Elland Road two months ago, and also made his competitive debut for the U18s in his final season as a schoolboy.
Ajayi is rubbing shoulders with Tottenham Hotspur stars such as Harry Kane, Brazil international Emerson Royal and new signing from Leicester City, James Maddison, during pre-season preparations at Hotspur way.
Capable of playing as a striker, attacking midfielder and winger, he made his debuts in the UEFA Youth League, Premier League 2, Papa Johns Trophy and FA Youth Cup last season.
As part of their preparations for the new season, Tottenham Hotspur have lined up friendly matches against West Ham United, Leicester City, Lion City Sailors, Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona.
