Nwaneri pulls off Zinedine Zidane's signature move in Arsenal's 1-1 draw v Nurnberg
Published: July 13, 2023
Ethan Nwaneri was in action for Arsenal in their 1-1 draw with 2.Bundesliga club Nürnberg in their second preseason game on Thursday evening.
The 16-year-old came on at the hour mark as a replacement for Fabio Viera whom he also replaced in the game against Brentford to become the youngest debutant in the Premier League history last season.
The history-making midfielder was lively yet again as he combined well with his senior teammates.
The highlight of his performance was when he pulled off a roulette turn to evade the attentions of two Nürnberg players, the signature move of Juventus and Real Madrid icon Zinedine Zidane during his playing days.
Bukayo Saka gave the Gunners the lead as early as the 7th when he held off his marker in the box, cut onto his left foot and drilled an early effort low and hard past the goalkeeper.
Nürnberg equalized in the 62nd minute when the ball struck Jorginho and flew into the net, which birthed more life into the encounter.
Nwaneri had earlier featured in Mikel Arteta's first preseason game against English Championship side Watford which was played behind closed doors at London Colney on Saturday.
Also involved in the game was USMNT's striker of Nigerian descent Folarin Balogun who came on as a 55th-minute substitute for Leandro Trossard.
Mikel Arteta's side will now depart for the United States in continuation of their pre-season activities.
They are set to face MLS All-Stars on July 19th at Audi Field, Washington DC, United States in their next preseason fixture
