The boy's a bit special: Video of Nwaneri pulling off roulette turn against Nurnberg
Published: July 14, 2023
Exciting English midfielder of Nigeria descent Ethan Nwaneri showed yet again why he is held in high regard by Mikel Arteta in Arsenal's 1-1 draw with 2.Bundesliga side Nürnberg in a preseason game yesterday.
The 16-year-old came on as a substitute in the 60th minute for Fabio Vieira and oozed brilliance among more experienced players.
The highlight of his performance was when he performed a roulette turn to evade the marking of two Nürnberg players, a move which was met with a lot of cheers from the Arsenal faithful.
The audacity to perform such a skill which was also a signatory move of former Ballon d'Or winner Zinedine Zidane is one of those traits that make the attacking midfielder an exceptional talent.
Arsenal had to fight off interests from Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea to keep hold of the talented midfielder.
It was reported that Arteta was involved in the negotiations with Nwaneri's camp to ensure that he signed a new deal with the club which is a testament of how he is highly revered by the coaching staff.
Nwaneri has now featured in the two pre-season games of the north London club and will be hoping to feature in subsequent matches.
While he is expected to continue featuring for the club's U18s and development side, it won't be a surprise to see him feature in some first-team games in the new season.
